Have you ever heard about Joychandi Pahar? Professional trekkers and trekking lovers find it a good option for rock climbing as well as trekking. The hill was popular only from the Satyajit Ray film, ‘Hirak Rajar Deshe’ that has some scenes shot here. Earlier, the place was not so popular and as a result, not so much transportation facilities are available to reach the hill from the railway station. At present, the station is well connected up to the Joychandi Pahar and the surrounding locality that one can reach here easily.

 

It is a popular place for young mountaineers to learn the basic course in rock climbing. There are two routes available to reach Ajodhya Hills. One is via Jhalda and the other one is via Sirkabad. There is a Forest Rest House here. Gorgaburu (855 m), Mayuri etc. are of the some of the peaks of Ajodhya hills range.

The area forms the lowest step of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The general scenario is undulating land with scattered hills. The area around Bagmundi or Ajodhya Hill is an extended plateau. Gorshabru, the highest peak of the Ajodhya Hills is situated at a magnificent 2850 feet.

This place is in the Purulia district. Thus, you can go for a visit to the well-known Ajodhya Hills. The destination has recently become very famous with the Tuga Dam and nature’s beautiful sceneries, including waterfalls. The Maithan Dam, the Panchet Dam and the remains of Garpanchakot can also be visited.

Best Time to Visit Joychandi

The weather is pleasant here, although the day time of the summer is quite hot. The night is pleasant although. So, you can plan the trip any time of the year. However, the spring is the most favourable time as that would bring heavenly natural beauty here.

How to Reach Joychandi

Take any train from Howrah towards Purulia and reach Adra junction. From here you can take any local train towards Asansol and land on the next station, i.e. Joychandi Pahar. The other route through train is to reach Asansol from Howrah and take a local train towards Purulia to reach the intermediate station Joychandi Pahar.
